Phil Johnson

Phil Johnson - Clinical Sports and Performance PsychologyPhil is a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist, but this doesn’t mean that he only works with sports people. Phil is a qualified social worker with over 15 years experience in mental health services as a practitioner, lecturer and trainer.

Phil has worked in community mental health teams, helping clients with depression, anxiety, addiction and eating disorders, prevalent conditions that can be seen in young people, the elderly and sports people alike. In fact, Phil has been part of the clinical team at Tony Adams’ Sporting Chance Clinic, treating addiction and lifestyle issues.

Phil has practised systemic family therapy, counselling and psychotherapy. He is a telephone counsellor for the ME Society, based in Bristol.

In the context of sport and exercise psychology, Phil previously played football professionally and has a special interest in football, having set up a consultancy treating professional footballers from a range of clubs in the south west of England. He is a qualified football coach.

Phil also works with the national Modern Pentathlon Academy. In addition he works with elite and development Equestrian Squads as well as clients from swimming, gymnastics, golf, tennis, cricket and rugby.

Phil lives in Bristol and enjoys spending time on Exmoor.
